Hi-Fi World have been the first UK magazine to review the new 101 and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.

As usual, to read the full review, you’ll have to pick up a copy at your local news agent, but we’ll leave you with the conclusion:

“Entry-level they may be, but the Acoustic Energy 101s are an admirably refined and beguiling speaker. Unlike some rivals, they have a natural, even tonal balance with a detailed mid-range and decent levels of bass for their size. Add to that a superb build quality and you have one very tempting package. Anyone looking for a sub-£300 loudspeaker that both looks and sounds a lot more expensive really has to take these loudspeakers.”

And whilst we are at it, how about a list of things they found against them…

The July Issue of What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision magazine features two reviews on the 1-Series.

The 101 5.101 Home Cinema System comprises 2 pairs of 101 stand mounts, a 107 centre and 108 active subwoofer. Pitted against a range of other 5.1 speaker packages in a group test, the 5.1 system certainly held its own against its rivals. To quote the review:

“It’s a big and punchy performance, but it’s refined too. The sound is clear, with a healthy balance to the tonal diet.”

“… if you’re tight on space and looking for something easy to accommodate, this package is well worth investing.”

FOR: “Well integrated; clean, detailed sound; easy to accommodate.”

VERDICT: “This package is a great all-rounder and easy to accommodate in your home.”

The second review is a “First Test” (well, for What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision magazine) on the 101 Stand Mounts. Again, a few quotes from the magazine…

“These speakers really are very good…”

“The straight-edged boxes are neatly finished with black ash or walnut veneers, while little touches like the silver trim ring on the driver cones and the silver ‘AE’ badge neatly tucked inside add a touch of class.”

FOR: “Clean, crisp sound; tonally balanced; fun; lively delivery; compact and versatile.”

VERDICT: “Appealing in more ways than one, these little speakers are good buys.”

We’re very excited to announce that we’ve just received the first review of the 1-Series from the Russian Salon AV Magazine.

Tried and tested amongst a select range of 13 other brands the 101 came out on top and was crowned the “Grand Prix Winner”. That’s no mean feat when you see some of the competition they were up against…

The Boston Acoustics M25, Focal 705, Monitor Audio Silver 1, Martin Logan Motion 15 and (at double the price!) the What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision 2013 award-winners, the Q Acoustics Concept 20! At just £275 a pair the 101’s offer exceptional sound, style and value for money.

Here are a few select quotes translated from the review:

“These monitors have a very natural tonal balance. AE-101 has a wide dynamic range.Fast and precise bass. Open and clear midrange with good balance and fine detail.”

“…the soundstage is very certain. Sounds and instruments are located exactly in their places. Front line sounds feels incredibly natural. Sometimes you get feeling that you can touch the sounds. ”

“I found the imaging was precise and broad spanned, only just outside the speaker boundaries. Height and depth were both fine, aided no doubt by the contoured driver surrounds. They were equally at home on a desk surrounded by computer paraphernalia, so placement isn’t critical, aided of course by being front ported for the bass reflex.” “They didn’t elicit any listening fatigue from me even after a few hours of critical listening with a wide variety of music genres.”

“I found them a most satisfying listen throughout my entire time with them with regards to bass. Treble is sweet and crisp, able to sound realistic in the truest sense. Midband performance has a ballsy quality and lively flavour which will please many folks I am sure, so I can recommend them as a fine performer.”

“To summarize then what the Acoustic Energy 101s capabilities are, I would say they are no shrinking violets skulking in a corner to escape attention, they come out and say it like it is as, characterized in true Acoustic Energy fashion. Unlike most “budget” speakers however, feed them a clean undistorted signal with power and control and you could be well rewarded with exhilarating sounds.”

“Recommended: It’s up front verve and treble refinement with solid communicative bass when fed by quality amplification.”
